Hiking

There are numerous hiking trails in and around Stowe. We have curated a list for you below!

  1. Bingham Falls - this trail is not the easiest, but the reward is worth it. Located about a mile from the Lodge, this steep descent takes you to a popular swimming hole carved from natural stone, with a sizeable waterfall above. Click above for the AllTrails listing.

  2. Moss Glen Falls - this trail is an easy 3/4 mile stroll through the beaver dam area before bringing you to the river’s edge. A 100’ hike up the hill presents an overlook of the falls, or you can wade through the river to the base of the falls. Click above for more!

  3. Notch Road - head right from the Lodge and up Notch Road. There is a natural spring about 1/2 a mile past the Lodge where you can fill up your water bottle with fresh water, kept at a cool temperature year-round. From there, drive up a bit further and park at any of the pullouts for some fantastic trails.

  4. Gondola to the Chin - if you take the Gondola up to the top of Mt. Mansfield, the hiking up there is fantastic. It’s not easy, so be prepared and take extra water. Mountain weather changes frequently, so be ready to high tail it back to the lift to get down if it starts storming. But if you do venture up to the chin, you can see clear to Canada and experience true beauty in an almost alien environment. The forest is lush but fragile, so please be mindful of where you’re walking!

Biking

Interested in biking around Stowe? You can rent bikes from the Lodge! Call Guest Services for more on that.

You can also rent bikes from Ranch Camp, especially if you want to do some serious mountain biking!

Water Activities

The pool and hot tubs are available at the Lodge for your use at any time during your stay.

If you want something a little more authentic Vermont, check out the local swimming holes we listed in the Hiking section above. If you’re looking for Kayaking, Tubing, Paddleboarding, or Water Yoga, please give us a shout and we’ll put you in touch with folks who can arrange the activities for you!

Dining

You guessed it - there are many restaurants at the Lodge! But we know you may want to explore, so below is a list of some of our favorites!

Ranch Camp - this Vermont style bikes/burritos/beer restaurant is too cool to miss. Extensive Vegan and GF options, great beer, and fantastic food. Komal recommends the Fried Chicken Sandwich! It’s about 10 minutes from the Lodge, right before the village proper.

Harrisons - located in the village proper, it’s about 12 minutes from the Lodge. You will need reservations. They offer upscale American fare in an historic, cozy building that feels quintessentially Vermont.

The Bench - those that live in Connecticut will recognize the Bench as it could double as Stowe’s version of Mikro. Good food, huge tap list, cool atmosphere. Reservations aren’t required, but you may wait 15-20 minutes if it’s a busy night before being seated.

Cork - also located in the village proper, this wine bar is about 15 minutes from the Lodge. Classy wine pairings and delicious sharable plates make this one of our favorites in town. You will likely need reservations.

Edson Hill - halfway down Mountain Road towards town is a small road that leads up to the Edson Hill Inn. It can get muddy after a rain so be prepared. But once you get to the inn, it’s all worth it. Easily one of the most picturesque dining locations in Stowe, Edson Hill offers fine dining in a beautiful room or out on their terrace. Reservations are definitely required and if you want to go, we’d suggest making those reservations early… like, in June early.

Piecasso - about 10 minutes from the Lodge is a great spot for pizza. If you don’t want to sit down there, you can always take it back to the hotel!

If nothing here is speaking to you, shoot us an e-mail and we can direct you to something else - there are dozens of restaurants in Stowe, and we’re sure we’ll find something for you!

Drinking

The Waterbury/Stowe area is known as the beer capitol of New England. Seriously, there are at least 30 breweries within a half hour of Stowe, eight of which are in Stowe itself. So for those that want to do some brewery hopping, here’s what we suggest (someone may want to drive you, or you can Uber):

Start in Waterbury at Prohibition Pig. Grab a burger and a pint there, then head across the street to The Reservoir and try one of their macro brews.
From here, head back up towards Stowe, and if there’s a cider fan, stop at Cold Hollow along the way. If you want, continue past Stowe and up to Morrisville to grab a beer at Lost Nation, and then a little further up at Ten Bends. Turn back around and head towards Stowe.
Once you’re back in Stowe, you probably want to stop at Stowe Cider. They do amazing work, and even non-cider drinkers will find something that is too good to pass up. Now make your way to Alchemist. Almost across the street is Idletyme and their back patio is gorgeous. So grab a beer at both, and then head up to Von Trapp. The schnitzel at Von Trapp is amazing, so it’s probably a good time to grab a bite to eat. Now, if you’re feeling adventurous, head over to The Bench restaurant, which is on the way back to the Lodge, and grab something they have on tap. We guarantee you’ll find something new. From here, you’re probably ready for a break, so head back to the hotel, hit the hot tub and relax.

Here’s a link to this Beer Trail for you!

We typically like to grab drinks at the hotel, but if we’re out and about, chances are we’re stopping by The Matterhorn on the way back to the Lodge. It’s a great local dive with excellent wings and a refreshing view of the river below.

If you’re looking to relax outside and kill some time, your best bet is to head over to Idletyme and sit outside on their patio, maybe play a lawn game or two, and enjoy the weather.

You can buy beer and wine to take to your room at the Lodge at The Pantry, located right outside the main lobby. But if you need to grab something else, the closest and best option is the Notchbrook General Store, about 4 minutes from the hotel.
